Nomenclatural History
This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 12 in 1983. The species Lactobacillus bifermentans was originally described by Pette and van Beynum 1943. It pre-dated the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names but was excluded from those lists. In 1983 the name was revived by Kandler et al.. In 2020, Zheng et al. established as the basonym of (Kandler et al. 1983) Zheng et al. 2020 .
