Nomenclatural History
The species Lactobacillus bulgaricus was originally described by Rogosa and Hansen 1971. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Weiss et al. elevated this species to the rank of subspecies to form the name (Orla-Jensen 1919) Weiss et al. 1984 in 1983.
