The species Lactobacillus confusus was originally described by Sharpe et al. 1972. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. In 1993, Collins et al. established as the basonym of (Holzapfel and Kandler 1969) Collins et al. 1994 .
