The species Lactobacillus kandleri was originally described by Holzapfel and van Wyk 1982. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 10 in 1983. In 1993, Collins et al. established Lactobacillus kandleri as the basonym of
Weissella kandleri (Holzapfel and van Wyk 1983) Collins et al. 1994
.
