The species Lactobacillus kimchii was originally described and validly published by Yoon et al. 2000. Pang et al. established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of Cai et al. 1999 in 2012. In 2020, Zheng et al. established as the basonym of (Yoon et al. 2000) Zheng et al. 2020 .
