Nomenclatural History
This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 30 in 1989. The species Lactobacillus malefermentans was originally described by Russel and Walker 1953. It pre-dated the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names but was excluded from those lists. In 1988 the name was revived by Farrow et al.. In 2020, Zheng et al. established as the basonym of (Farrow et al. 1989) Zheng et al. 2020 .
