Nomenclatural History
The species Lactobacillus mali was originally described by Carr and Davies 1970. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. In 1983, Nonomura reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form (ex Carr and Davies 1970) Nonomura 1983 . Kaneuchi et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of (ex Nonomura et al. 1965) Nonomura 1983 in 1988. In 2020, Zheng et al. established as the basonym of (Carr and Davies 1970) Zheng et al. 2020 .
