The species Lactobacillus panis was originally described and validly published by Wiese et al. 1996. This name was placed onto the nomina taxorum conservanda by Judicial Opinion 72 in 2003. In 2020, Zheng et al. established Lactobacillus panis as the basonym of
Limosilactobacillus panis (Wiese et al. 1996) Zheng et al. 2020
