The species Lactobacillus paralimentarius was originally described and validly published by Cai et al. 1999. Pang et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of
Lactobacillus kimchii Yoon et al. 2000
in 2012. Pang et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of
Lactobacillus bobalius Mañes-Lázaro et al. 2008
in 2012. In 2020, Zheng et al. established Lactobacillus paralimentarius as the basonym of
Companilactobacillus paralimentarius (Cai et al. 1999) Zheng et al. 2020
