The species Lactobacillus paralimentarius was originally described and validly published by Cai et al. 1999. Pang et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of Yoon et al. 2000 in 2012. Pang et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of Mañes-Lázaro et al. 2008 in 2012. In 2020, Zheng et al. established as the basonym of (Cai et al. 1999) Zheng et al. 2020 .
