Nomenclatural History
The species Lactobacillus plantarum was originally described by Bergey et al. 1923. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Kostinek et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of Swezey et al. 2000 in 2005. In 2005, Bringel et al. reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form (Orla-Jensen 1919) Bringel et al. 2005 . In 2020, Zheng et al. established as the basonym of (Orla-Jensen 1919) Zheng et al. 2020 .
