Nomenclatural History

The subspecies Lactobacillus sakei sakei was originally described and validly published by Torriani et al. 1996. Trüper and De' Clari corrected this name from Lactobacillus sake sake (sic) to Lactobacillus sakei sakei . In 1996, Torriani et al. reduced
Lactobacillus sakei corrig. Katagiri et al. 1934 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Klein et al. 1996
to the rank of subspecies. In 2020, Zheng et al. established Lactobacillus sakei sakei as the basonym of
Latilactobacillus sakei sakei (Katagiri et al. 1934) Zheng et al. 2020
