The subspecies Lactobacillus sakei carnosus was originally described and validly published by Torriani et al. 1996. Trüper and De' Clari corrected this name from (sic) to . Koort et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of Torriani et al. 1996 in 2004. In 2020, Zheng et al. established as the basonym of (Torriani et al. 1996) Zheng et al. 2020 .
