Nomenclatural History

This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 16 in 1984. Trüper and De' Clari corrected this name from Lactobacillus sanfrancisco (sic) to Lactobacillus sanfranciscensis . The species Lactobacillus sanfranciscensis was originally described by Kline and Sugihara 1971. It pre-dated the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names but was excluded from those lists. In 1984 the name was revived by Weiss and Schillinger. In 2020, Zheng et al. established Lactobacillus sanfranciscensis as the basonym of
Fructilactobacillus sanfranciscensis (Weiss and Schillinger 1984) Zheng et al. 2020
