The species Lactobacillus sharpeae was originally described by Weiss et al. 1981. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 8 in 1982. In 2020, Zheng et al. established Lactobacillus sharpeae as the basonym of
Lacticaseibacillus sharpeae (Weiss et al. 1982) Zheng et al. 2020
.
