The species Abiotrophia adiacens was originally described and validly published by Kawamura et al. 1995. Kawamura et al. formed this name in 1995 by placing the species
Streptococcus adjacens Bouvet et al. 1989
into the genus Abiotrophia Kawamura et al. 1995. In 2000, Collins and Lawson established Abiotrophia adiacens as the basonym of
Granulicatella adiacens (Bouvet et al. 1989) Collins and Lawson 2000
.
