The species Carnobacterium inhibens was originally described and validly published by Jöborn et al. 1999. Nicholson et al. published an emended description of this species in 2015. In 2015, Nicholson et al. reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form (Jöborn et al. 1999) Nicholson et al. 2015 .
