Nomenclatural History

The species Enterococcus casseliflavus was originally described by Vaughn et al. 1979. It pre-dated the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names but was excluded from those lists. In 1984 the name was revived and validly published by Collins et al.. Collins et al. formed this name in 1984 by placing the species
Streptococcus casseliflavus Vaughn et al. 1979
into the genus Enterococcus (ex Thiercelin and Jouhaud 1903) Schleifer and Kilpper-Bälz 1984.
