Nomenclatural History
This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 11 in 1983. Trüper and de' Clari corrected this name from (sic) to . The species Melissococcus plutonius was originally described by White 1912. It pre-dated the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names but was excluded from those lists. In 1982 the name was revived by Bailey and Collins.
