The family Leuconostocaceae was originally proposed by Schleifer 2009. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 132 in 2010. Zheng et al. transferred the members of this family into Winslow et al. 1917 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Zheng et al. 2020 in 2020.
