The species Leuconostoc amelibiosum was originally described by Schillinger et al. 1989. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 31 in 1989. Takahashi et al. established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of
Leuconostoc citreum Farrow et al. 1989
in 1992.
