Nomenclatural History
|
The genus Streptococcus was originally proposed by Rosenbach 1884. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Deibel and Seeley published an emended description of this genus in 1974. Chester transferred the members of
Diplococcus Weichselbaum 1886
into this genus in 1901.
