Nomenclatural History

The species Streptococcus durans was originally described by Sherman and Wing 1937. It pre-dated the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names but was excluded from those lists. In 1984 the name was revived and validly published by Knight et al.. In 1984, Collins et al. established Streptococcus durans as the basonym of
Enterococcus durans (ex Sherman and Wing 1937) Collins et al. 1984
