Nomenclatural History

This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 17 in 1985. The subspecies Streptococcus equi zooepidemicus was originally described by Frost and Engelbrecht 1936. It pre-dated the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names but was excluded from those lists. In 1985 the name was revived by Farrow and Collins.
