The species Streptococcus pleomorphus was originally described by Barnes et al. 1977. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. In 2014, De Maesschalck et al. established as the basonym of (Barnes et al. 1979) De Maesschalck et al. 2014 .
