Nomenclatural History	The species Lactococcus garvieae was originally described by Schleifer et al. 1985. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 20 in 1986. Schleifer et al. formed this name in 1985 by placing the species Streptococcus garvieae Collins et al. 1984 into the genus Lactococcus Schleifer et al. 1986. Teixeira et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of Enterococcus seriolicida Kusuda et al. 1991 in 1996. In 2016, Varsha and Nampoothiri reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form Lactococcus garvieae garvieae (Collins et al. 1984) Varsha and Nampoothiri 2016 .
