Nomenclatural History
The species Sphaerobacter thermophilus was originally described by Demharter et al. 1989. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 31 in 1989. Houghton et al. published an emended description of this species in 2015. A subsequent emendation was proposed by Nouioui et al. in 2018.
