Nomenclatural History
The genus Micrococcus was originally proposed by Cohn 1872. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Baird-Parker published an emended description of this genus in 1974. Subsequent emendations were proposed by Stackebrandt et al. in 1995 and Wieser et al. in 2002.
