The species Micrococcus sedentarius was originally described by ZoBell and Upham 1944. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. In 1995, Stackebrandt et al. established Micrococcus sedentarius as the basonym of
Kytococcus sedentarius (ZoBell and Upham 1944) Stackebrandt et al. 1995 emend. Nouioui et al. 2018
