The species Brevibacterium ammoniagenes was originally described by Breed 1953. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. In 1987, Collins established as the basonym of (Cooke and Keith 1927) Collins 1987 emend. Nouioui et al. 2018 .
