The species Brevibacterium divaricatum was originally described by Su and Yamada 1960. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Liebl et al. established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of
Corynebacterium glutamicum (Kinoshita et al. 1958) Abe et al. 1967 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Nouioui et al. 2018
in 1991.
