The species Brevibacterium pusillum was originally described by Iizuka and Komagata 1965. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Garrity et al. established Brevibacterium pusillum as an earlier homotypic synonym of
Curtobacterium pusillum (Iizuka and Komagata 1965) Yamada and Komagata 1972 (Approved Lists 1980) pro synon. Brevibacterium pusillum Iizuka and Komagata 1965 (Approved Lists 1980)
in 2007.
