The species Brevibacterium saperdae was originally described by Lysenko 1959. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. In 1980, Skerman et al. established Brevibacterium saperdae as the basonym of
Curtobacterium saperdae (Lysenko 1959) Yamada and Komagata 1972 (Approved Lists 1980)
. In 1983, Collins et al. established Brevibacterium saperdae as the basonym of
Aureobacterium saperdae (Lysenko 1959) Collins et al. 1983
.
