The family Dermacoccaceae was originally proposed and validly published by Stackebrandt and Schumann 2000. Zhi et al. published an emended description of this family in 2009. Subsequent emendations were proposed by Ruckmani et al. in 2011 and Nouioui et al. in 2018.
