The species Curtobacterium citreum was originally described by Yamada and Komagata 1972. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Skerman et al. formed this name in 1980 by placing the species Komagata and Iizuka 1964 (Approved Lists 1980) into the genus Yamada and Komagata 1972 (Approved Lists 1980).
