The species Curtobacterium luteum was originally described by Yamada and Komagata 1972. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Garrity et al. established as a later homotypic synonym of Komagata and Iizuka 1964 (Approved Lists 1980) in 2007.
