The species Curtobacterium saperdae was originally described by Yamada and Komagata 1972. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Skerman et al. formed this name in 1980 by placing the species
Brevibacterium saperdae Lysenko 1959 (Approved Lists 1980)
into the genus Curtobacterium Yamada and Komagata 1972 (Approved Lists 1980).
