Nomenclatural History
The species Corynebacterium diphtheriae was originally described by Lehmann and Neumann 1896. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Nouioui et al. published an emended description of this species in 2018. In 2018, Tagini et al. reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form (Kruse 1886) Tagini et al. 2019 .
