The species Corynebacterium ammoniagenes was originally described and validly published by Collins 1987. Nouioui et al. published an emended description of this species in 2018. Collins formed this name in 1987 by placing the species
Brevibacterium ammoniagenes (Cooke and Keith 1927) Breed 1953 (Approved Lists 1980)
into the genus Corynebacterium Lehmann and Neumann 1896 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Baek et al. 2018.
