Nomenclatural History	The species Gordonia sputi was originally described by Stackebrandt et al. 1988. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 30 in 1989. Stackebrandt et al. corrected this name from Gordona sputi (sic) to Gordonia sputi . Tsukamura published an emended description of this species in 1991. A subsequent emendation was proposed by Riegel et al. in 1994. Stackebrandt et al. formed this name in 1988 by placing the species Rhodococcus sputi Tsukamura 1978 into the genus Gordona (sic) (ex Tsukamura 1971) Stackebrandt et al. 1989Gordonia corrig. (ex Tsukamura 1971) Stackebrandt et al. 1989. Riegel et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of Rhodococcus chubuensis Tsukamura 1983 in 1994.
