Nomenclatural History
The species Skermania piniformis was originally described and validly published by Chun et al. 1997. Nouioui et al. published an emended description of this species in 2018. Chun et al. formed this name in 1997 by placing the species Blackall et al. 1989 into the genus Chun et al. 1997.

This name is illegitimate because the specific epithet does not match that of the basonym and therefore contravenes Rule 34.
