Nomenclatural History
The subspecies Mycobacterium chelonae chelonae was originally described by Bergey et al. 1923. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. This name was affected by Judicial Opinion 86 in 2008. Hill et al. corrected this name from (sic) to . In 1992, Kusunoki and Ezaki reduced corrig. Bergey et al. 1923 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Nouioui et al. 2018 to the rank of subspecies.
