The species Mycobacterium thermoresistibile was originally described by Tsukamura 1966. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Nouioui et al. published an emended description of this species in 2018. In 2018, Gupta et al. established as the basonym of (Tsukamura 1966) Gupta et al. 2018 .
