Nomenclatural History
The genus Nocardia was originally proposed by Trevisan 1889. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. This name was affected by Judicial Opinion 58 in 1985. McClung published an emended description of this genus in 1974. Goodfellow and Pirouz transferred the members of Lechevalier et al. 1961 emend. Cross 1974 (Approved Lists 1980) into this genus in 1982.
