The species Nocardia amarae was originally described by Lechevalier and Lechevalier 1974. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. In 1994, Klatte et al. established Nocardia amarae as the basonym of
Gordonia amarae corrig. (Lechevalier and Lechevalier 1974) Klatte et al. 1994 emend. Nouioui et al. 2018
