The species Nocardia mediterranei was originally described by Thiemann et al. 1969. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. In 1986, Lechevalier et al. established Nocardia mediterranei as the basonym of
Amycolatopsis mediterranei (Margalith and Beretta 1960) Lechevalier et al. 1986 emend. Nouioui et al. 2018
