The species Nocardia pinensis was originally described by Blackall et al. 1989. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 31 in 1989. In 1997, Chun et al. established Nocardia pinensis as the basonym of
Skermania piniformis Chun et al. 1997 emend. Nouioui et al. 2018
.
