The species Nocardia restricta was originally described by McClung 1974. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Rainey et al. established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of (Magnusson 1923) Goodfellow and Alderson 1977 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Nouioui et al. 2018 in 1995.
