Nomenclatural History
This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 25 in 1988. The species Nocardia rugosa was originally described by di Marco and Spalla 1957. It pre-dated the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names but was excluded from those lists. In 1986 the name was revived by Goodfellow and Lechevalier. Garrity et al. established as a later homotypic synonym of (ex di Marco and Spalla 1957) Lechevalier et al. 1986 in 2007.
