The species Rhodococcus opacus was originally described by Klatte et al. 1994. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 52 in 1995. Lee and Kim established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of
Rhodococcus percolatus Briglia et al. 1996
in 2021. Lee and Kim established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of
Rhodococcus imtechensis Ghosh et al. 2006 emend. Nouioui et al. 2018
in 2021.
