The suborder Micromonosporineae was originally proposed and validly published by Stackebrandt et al. 1997. Zhi et al. published an emended description of this suborder in 2009. Genilloud elevated this suborder to the rank of order to form the name (Stackebrandt et al. 1997) Genilloud 2015 in 2012.
